The Evolve Approach
What makes us different?
At Evolve Coaching Systems we take a holistic approach to triathlon. We believe that success happens when you train both the body and the mind and when all aspects of an athlete’s life are supported. Training to succeed at any sport requires particular attention to the sport, but to excel, an athlete must focus on nutrition, restorative measures, mental strength and fitness. Evolve athletes are supported in all of these endeavors through a team environment which works to lift up each athlete in his or her athletic pursuit.
Essential Evolve
Athlete Centered
At ECS, we take an athlete centered approach that treats each person as an individual. Plans are highly tailored to the needs of each athlete and utilize a variety of considerations when structuring a season. No one plan fits all.
Best Practices
All coaches and staff use best practices when it comes to preparing training plans, instructing, and offering advice. We do not believe in fitness trends; rather, we are grounded in science and utilize the latest research on best practices in triathlon and endurance sports.
Community Driven
While we recognize that triathlon and endurance sports are an individual pursuit, we also understand that a solid support system is behind every great athlete. We work hard at ECS to create a community which is athletically diverse, but comes together to help support and encourage each athlete.
Dedication to Improvement
Dedication is what drives both the coaches and the athletes at ECS. Athletes at ECS are dedicated to improving, learning, and bettering themselves both on and off the field. The one commonality that we strive for is dedication; ECS is not concerned with how fast you make it to the finish line, rather that each athlete worked to his or her best ability to get there and learned something along the way.
FAQs
Do I need to live near my coach to be coached by them?
The answer is NO! We coach athletes from coast to coast and in Europe, Africa, South and Central America! The use of Training Peaks and smart watches, allows us to deliver plans to any athlete across the globe.
What is the difference between a coach and a training plan?
A training plan is a static set of workouts for a pre-determined set of time. A training plan does not take into consideration illness, work or travel and does not offer coach analysis and feedback. At Evolve, we do not offer training plans. We pride ourselves in how we work closely with each of our athletes and their specific needs to create workouts that are tailored to the athlete.
How does remote coaching work?
All athletes must have access to the Training Peaks app (premium is included in your coaching fee) a heart rate monitor and a watch which is compatible with Training Peaks. Most of our athletes have a Garmin Fenix, XT or Apple watch. Coaches use Training Peaks to deliver workouts, analyze and communicate with their athletes regardless of the time zone they reside in.
How long do most athletes get coached for?
At a minimum we require four months. For a long course event the ideal time frame is at least 10 months prior to the event. Our athletes are typically coached year round and we have some athletes going on 10+ years of continuous coaching.
What are the basic requirements to get started with coaching?
Swimming: Must be able to swim 500 yards (if unable, we require swim lessons)
Biking: Need to own the basics - bike and helmet or have an intention to purchase one. We highly recommend a bike (turbo) trainer as well.
Running: Basic equipment.
How do I know which Evolve coach is right for me, or if I am a good fit for the Elite program?
Upon initial contact we do a phone call to determine each athlete’s individual needs and goals and at that point a coach recommendation is made. Potential athletes then speak with the coach to determine if the coach is a good fit. A strong athlete/coach relationship is essential and we take time to make sure that we make a good match.
